Lars Nittve

Director, Moderna Museet, Stockholm. Lars Nittve was born in Stockholm, Sweden, in 1953. He lectured in art history at the University of Stockholm during the period 1978-1985. He also contributed regularly as an art critic to Svenska Dagbladet, Stockholm, and Artforum, New York. In 1986, Nittve was appointed chief curator at the Moderna Museet in Stockholm, after which he served as director of Rooseum – Center for Contemporary Art in Malmö 1990-1995. In July 1995, Nittve became the director of Louisiana Museum for Moderne Kunst in Humlebæk, Denmark. In 1998, he was appointed director of Tate Modern, London, which opened in 2000. On 1 November 2001, he took up his post as director of Moderna Museet, Stockholm. Lars Nittve has curated a large number of major exhibitions and has served on the jury for numerous international awards. He is the author of several books on art, as well as articles in periodicals and catalogues in Sweden and abroad. Lars Nittve served as chairman of the Carnegie Art Award jury from 1998 to 2006.
