María de Corral was the founder and Director of Grupo Quince, a workshop, art gallery and publisher of printed editions in Madrid, in 1971–1981. In 1981–1991, she was the director of the Visual Arts Department of Fundació “la Caixa”, and in charge of the exhibitions programme in Madrid and Barcelona. From 1990 to 1994, she was the director of the Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía, and from
1995 to 2002 the director of the Contemporary Art Collection of Fundació “la Caixa”, which she founded in 1985. In 2002–2006, she was the director of Telefónica Foundation Collection. She has curated the
exhibition: Fast Forward: Contemporary Collections for the Dallas Museum of Art as the last project (November 2006–May 2007). She is the curator of the exhibition Planes Futuros for the Baluarte in Pamplona, Spain and working as Director of Colección de Arte Contemporáneo Museo Patio Herreriano in Valladolid. She has been secretary/treasurer of CIMAM, International Council of Museums of Modern Art and is now a member of the International Arts Council, Wexner Center for the Arts, Columbus (Ohio); Advisory Board Museu d’Art Contemporani de Barcelona (MACBA) and Patron Member Centro Guerrero, Granada. She has curated numerous major exhibitions and monographs. She has served on the jury of several international awards and was awarded Art Cologne in 1994, the Leo Award-Ici in 1992 and the Koiné Prize in 2000. Since 1991, she is a Chevalier de l’Ordre des Arts et des Lettres, and in 2001, she was appointed an Officier de l’Ordre des Arts et des Lettres.
