Åsmund Thorkildsen

Åsmund Thorkildsen was born in Drammen, Norway in 1954. He received a Master of Arts degree in art history from Oslo University in 1983. Thorkildsen has been an art critic for Drammens Tidene/Buskeruds Blad since 1985 and also served as an art critic for Morgenbladet in 1986 and 1987. Thorkildsen has taught modern art and art theory at Oslo University and at the Colleges of Art in Oslo, Bergen and Trondheim since 1987. During the period 1988-99 he held the position of director of Kunstnernes Hus in Oslo, where he was responsible for a large number of exhibitions.

  From October 1999 until February 2001 he was director of Astrup Fearnley Museet for Moderne Kunst in Oslo. On 1 February 2001 he took up his post as director of Drammens Museum, Drammen. Åsmund Thorkildsen served as the curator for the Olympics Collection '94 in Lillehammer
(1992-94) and also for the 1996 graduate exhibition at the National Academy in Oslo. In early 1998, Thorkildsen was appointed professor in art theory at the National College for Arts and Crafts. Thorkildsen has served on the juries of several Norwegian art institutions and has contributed articles to numerous books, journals and catalogues.
