Gertrud Sandqvist

Jury member Gertrud Sandqvist, Head of dept. and head of studies at the Malmö Art Academy, Lund University.
Gertrud Sandqvist was born in Uddevalla in 1955. She studied at the Forum school of painting in 1975-76. In 1978 she received a degree in journalism from the College of Journalism (JMK) in Stockholm, and in 1983 a degree in journalism specialising in art history from the University of Lund. She was the assistant editor-in-chief for the design magazine Form 1980, later its correspondent until 1990, editor of the art magazine Paletten between 1981-84 and editor for the Nordic Art Centre, Helsinki, in 1984-88. Sandqvist founded the Nordic art magazine Siksi, and was its editor-in-chief in 1986-88, and its editor until 1990. She served as an art critic at

  Hufvudstadsbladet, Helsinki, in 1988-90, and atSvenska Dagbladet in 1990-92. Between 1992-94 she was director of Gallery F 15 in Moss, Norway, and between 1994-95 she was head of department and head of studies in art theory at the School of Photography and Film at Göteborg University. She has been the head of department and head of studies in art theory at the Malmö Art Academy since 1995. Gertrud Sandqvist has curated several exhibitions of contemporary art and published numerous articles on contemporary artists in books and catalogues in the Nordic countries and abroad. She has published texts in art theory, in which she primarily discusses art from a psychoanalytical feminist perspective. She has also organised several major seminars on similar themes.
