Halldór Björn Runólfsson

Jury member Halldór Björn Runólfsson, Senior lecturer at the Iceland Academy of Fine Arts, Reykjavik.
Halldór Björn Runólfsson was born in Reykjavik, Iceland, in 1950. He studied art history at Toulouse University, where he took his Masters degree in 1979. In 1980-89, he was an art critic for the weekly magazine Helgarpósturinn, the newspaper Þjóðviljinn and Iceland's radio. He taught cultural history at the Iceland College of Drama from 1985 to 1989. In 1986-88, Runólfsson was one of the directors of Galleri Svart á hvitu in Reykjavik, and in 1989-92, he was the director of exhibitions at The
Nordic Arts Centre, Suomenlinna, in Helsinki. Parallel

  with this, he curated numerous exhibitions in the Nordic countries and the rest of Europe. He has been teaching contemporary art at the Academy of Art in Reykjavik, formerly the College of Art and Crafts, since 1992. In 1993, he curated Borealis 6, the Nordic biennial at the National Gallery in Reykjavik. He has been an art critic at the daily paper Morgunblaðið since 1996, and in 2000 he was appointed Iceland editor for the Nordic art magazine NU. Halldór Björn Runólfsson has been responsible for several exhibitions and has contributed articles on art to numerous Icelandic and international publications since 1992.
